Ya this weather sucks.
Kyle do you need any old MC tires to lay down or do whatever with for an added challenge?

Nope, thanks for the offer. I have a line on several old tractor tires but I need to take the truck and trailer down to La Cygne, KS and pick them up....that gives me an idea. Troy, don't we know someone with some private trails down there? Maybe we could plan a day trip w/ 2-3 guys. Ride for a few hours then load up the tires on the way home. They are about 4 miles West of the power plant.

Savage you're so cheap............ Just pay the $3 per tire, and recycle them :P

LOL  Maybe I should just load them up on the KLR and go ride out by KC's house and hang them on the fence posts to mark his location. Farmers would probably like it too.

(Troy you have a stagnant PM) :)

KC let me know when you want to pick up the tires. Maybe we can set something up.

There's a good chance I'll be in the KC area that weekend, so, I might include myself as one of the 'watchers' and be social for a bit.

Not sure Manhattan is "in the KC area", but hope you make it!

Silly, Troy. When you own a bike and like to ride, everything including not having to put the bike on a plane or sea-faring ferry, is in the area :)

Besides, I am sure you know of some fun roads to get to Manhattan from the actual KC area, so, that 2.5 hour or so trip will be well worth it and probably quite fun.

It's about 2.5 hours flying straight W on I-70. The ADV route is more like 4 hours. 8)

There are some great minimum maintenance roads sprinkled between Kansas City & Manhattan but a lot of the good ones I found run North to South which does not help you make good time towards Manhattan. If I was you riding solo on a loaded Vstrom with limited time, I'd just pick some minor pavement and get out there to enjoy the festivities.

Would love to ride with you, but I'll be hauling the little bikes in my truck. No, I'm not putting my F800GS through the obstacle course. 8)

Anyone planning on camping? Or, staying the night?

I'm in talks with a gent about selling his Warbonnet blackbird hammock and if the sale goes through, he seems a bit proud of a hammock he doesn't like all that much, I'd like to try it out.

KC, you got a couple of trees, roughly 18' apart I can attach a hammock to and not get killed by falling limbs?

I'm planning to come in on Friday, to camp Friday night, and will most likely sleep in the back of my explorer.

jasoomian, you can probably just tie your hammock between your Vstrom and Bob's Explorer!

Not to thread jack, but, speaking of hammocks.

I hope the deal goes through on the Warbonnet. Kind of excited about carrying LESS on the bike gear wise for the camping funs and joys.

Not sure the Explorer or Strom would be high enough to account for the slack in the hammock. Probably spend the night with my back end lying in the dirt. I could, however, use the Strom and 'whatever' to make a tent and just sleep on the ground if I had to.

The truth? No, not many trees around here yet. Best bet is to hang it off the raised deck OR you can just use my tent OR I have several bedrooms and plenty of floor space if you like. Bedrooms are first come first serve and I am assuming that Troy will want one of them if he comes in Friday. I have one "4" man tent and 3 single air mattresses that anyone is welcome to use.

This thread is pretty quiet for a ride that is only 3 days away......................
I know the weather is going to be suspect, but what the Heck?

I had planned to camp on Friday night, is there anyone else who plans to do the same? I'm not sure I'd do it if I was the only one.

Still looking forward to this Event! :D

Let's hope the weatherman is wrong for that weekend. I checked this morning and it's showing Snow Showers on Friday? This is May, right?

Guys...I am still trying to be optimistic about hosting the Skills Challenge this Saturday but the forecast keeps changing every day. Only a handful of people have committed to this deal so far so I am open to suggestions/opinions about moving it to next week (or later). My track dries out pretty fast when the sun comes out, so if the rain is hit & miss, we might be ok. I would be fine with having the event on Sunday the 5th, giving things another day to dry and warm up, but would everyone still come out? I will give a thumbs up or down tomorrow night after taking your opinions, current weather conditions and currently different forecast of the day into consideration.

I'd be a lot more likely to show up if you moved it to Sunday. The forecast is looking a whole lot better for then than it is for Saturday.

Depending on whether or not I get my 350 back from Cyclezone before the event, I may be just riding the big bike out there to spectate/dual sport, so Sunday would be a lot better for covering the road miles.
